i tri (again)

jax tri 8/7/10

 {swim}

 {bike}

{run}

1 hour 17 minutos 45ish seconds
(please compare to last year's time of 1:24, this year i learned its okay to push yourself harder the whole time.)

yay for me and kendal! it was kendal's first and she did aaaa-mazing! we finished 30 seconds apart which is nuts considering we started in different waves so we had no idea what each other's pace were. crazy. we're obviously perfect training buddies.

 the cheerleading section got a little larger this year, and so did emme and katie! can't wait for baby will to arrive soon!

 i placed in my age group, but before you get impressed please note that there were only 7 girls i was competing against. i have one more year in this tight age group and then i have no hope of placing until i get old. the 25-29 group is legit.

i felt much more prepared for this triathlon than last year since i was able to ride on my bike outside a lot more, and i invested in a few gadgets...
here are some more tips and tricks i learned after tri numero dos:
1. try to streamline your transitions as much as possible, i did this by swimming in my bike shorts so i had one less thing to put on and i used the elastic laces (yankz) so you don't have to tie shoe laces
2. a bike computer is a pretty good buy. i never really rode with mine much to learn all the ins and outs, but it did come in handy for watching my mph.
3. get a long straw water bottle for the bike. this way you don't have to waste time drinking in the transition. you just bend down and take a sip and keep on truckin.
bottle 50 cents straw 42 cents.
brett got the bottle from goodwill and the "straw" from home depot (it's actually water tubing).
4. run with a hat on. this way you don't have to mess with your hair (or worry about the mess your hair is) and you look hardcore ha.
5. to make sure i didn't fall into a slower pace in the run (because it's so tempting since you're so tired), anytime someone passed me i would stay with them as long as possible. this worked really well because i found a woman who pushed me as my pacer for the last mile.
6. bring a backpack with all the goods you need for the race all in one place.
7. the swim makes you sooo thirsty (especially if you swallow a mouthful of salt water like i did, it made me feel sick the rest of the swim) so i drank a bit of gatorade in the transition to get the salty taste out of my mouth. next year though i'll put it in a squeeze bottle so i don't have to mess with a cap.
{to see last year's tips go here}

brett says he's gonna beat me next year... oooh that makes me laugh, and i say bring it on.
