b & f: nothing works like a mixed tape

so we went from strangers to hanging out,
mainly because there was always tennis to be played. also because we both didn't have jobs and our classes weren't too demanding so there was lots of free time. a lot of the time it was blake, marc jones, and us playing tennis and killing time before church (since it took too long to go home and back). we went to the mall to get sweatpants for brett and blake one time, and that's when brett noticed my guster shirt and asked if i liked that band. i had to admit that i bought the goodwill shirt cause i liked the me gusta in "me gusta guster" and i had no idea that it was a band. (it's a good thing that guster was what followed me gusta and not something strange. spanish speakers seeing me wear that shirt might have thought i was a creep and i would never have known. note to self: although it did work out for me this time, don't buy shirts that say "i like fill in the blank" unless you know what fill in the blank means.)

but anywaaays...
he wasted no time in burning me a guster cd. when i listen to that cd now it makes me laugh and it makes me nostalgic. he also put some random favorite songs of his at the end, those songs are just so brett, and i had no idea. it's so weird to think i didn't used to know him. he gave me the cd at church and another girl who was trying to holler at him saw him do the deed. it was scary and exciting - you know, those goofy, giddy emotions movies like grease are based on.

at another halloween party with church kids, brett arrived in style in the cruiser. he was itchin' for some alone time with me so he proposed we ride together for the volleyball tournament the next day. we northsiders had to stick together to save gas right?
good excuse.
that benz he used to drive was one sweet ride.

(another little side note that's actually on topic: being northsiders, if we left church at the same time, we would drive home the same way - even if that's not the route we would normally have gone. and we couldn't help driving next to each other on thomasville road, doing silly things to get each others' attention while going 50 miles an hour or at stoplights until that final moment when i had to turn to go home.) after the volleyball tourney a bunch of us went out to shoney's for a late breakfast. hollaback girl was there too, and there i was leaving with brett. unfortch.

sometime around then brett texted me for the first time - i was out at the symphony (because we're cultured, not because it was mandatory for a class. ha, wait, it was mandatory for a class...) with another freshman guy from the ward. brett, brian, and john had gone up to tennessee for a football game and he just had to poke fun at me as he drove past macon. i didn't have texting back in those days so when i got home i hopped on my laptop and texted him that way for a while. brian first knew me as one of those chicks brett was texting while driving home late through georgia.
