me and lolly painted up a few mason jars to look vintage for an upcoming wedding reception.
for the tutorial go here.
the tutorial is great, but here are a couple more tips we learned while doing it:
we
did the 30/70 paint to thinner ratio. she suggested using a wash cloth
instead of a paint brush to reduce streaking, but we felt the large
fibered terry cloth was still pretty streaky. we cut up a soft old
t-shirt and used that instead. (and make sure you test out your color
mixture/painting method on a jar you don't care about, like so.)
the
paint is water soluble and comes off your hands really easily so you
don't have to use gloves. lolly just happened to have some though so we
used them to prevent getting smurf nails. i think it really helped cause
you could manhandle the jar and rag more without being afraid of the
blue.
they're not perfect, but they're supposed to get better after you bake them.
i
found the best way to paint them was to start with the jars in this
position on your hand, paint the threading part first and the neck. it
was hardest to get the paint in the threading and the curvy neck evenly.
then i started at the neck and tried to just do one smooth swipe to the
bottom of the jar. the more you wipe back and forth the more the paint
hates you - it dries pretty quick and splotches come off if you go back
over it. then you do the bottom and your done painting!
such an awesome little project!
and i'm so proud of myself for doing two of my pinterest project ideas in one week!
