i made this ruffle apron for a friend's bridal shower this weekend after i saw the idea on pinterest. i got the fabric from the home decor fabric section at joann's and the tutorial i used is here.
this
was actually my first sewing machine project besides making t-shirts
smaller and the pillows i made in home ec. it was so easy and fun! and
surprisingly i never wanted to cry and hit my sewing machine in
frustration (which i wanted to do with my last sewing machine a few
times, discouraging me from doing projects).
my
ruffles didn't turn out quite ruffly enough. she had you cut the fabric
the exact size you needed it to be in the end instead of longer to
account for the extra fabric for ruffling. my problem also could have
been that i was just going along the wrong grain of the fabric for the
way she ruffles? i'm not too sure, i'm no expert.
big
bow on the booty. so cute. she had the ends of the ties squared but i
rounded them off, which you can see in the first picture.
at
the last minute, the night before the shower of course, i realized i
needed a card. while i was riffling through my craft drawer to get card
stock i found these old stickers. i printed off her new name in a font i
liked and made a light table with a lamp and piece of glass to trace it
on. then i glued a frame around the sticker to make it look more
finished.
i
meant to give her some kitchen towels too with the same ruffles, but
when my bobbin thread ran out i took it as a sign to give up and go to
bed. i also put some wooden spoons tied with ribbon in with the apron.
such a fun present! i'll have to do it again!
