jupiter turkey lurkey

turkey day in jupiter, so super-doopiter? the kidz with pappy.

"he's a little gruff, and will tell you like it is"
- my mom prepping brett to meet pappy
pappy was quite tame this visit though.
as usual he told me i look like veronica lake with my hair in my eyes.
he's so cute and happy here.

after our bustlin thanksgiving dinner, cousin chris saved us from some intense after dinner conversations (and the dog) by taking us outside to play on his trike. it's pretty cool and very addicting, you lean and do the motions like you're roller blading. it can go up to 35 miles an hour and has real tires with air in them ha

brett caught on quickly, he would.

there's toddly.

me trike'in along.

drum roll please...

here are the best trikers, hands down...

back in the day when dad worked at a department store he used the cart for the big boxes to do something like this.

mom's such a good sport, she was all over that trike.

the day after thanksgiving we went to breakfast with pappy. he lives in an apartment for senior citizens in lake worth (where my mom grew up). he goes to the little diner downstairs for breakfast every morning and gets the same thing. it made him really happy to show off his relatives to the diner owners and other regulars. here is a picture of the mail boxes at his apartment.

after that we hung out with aunt lynn all day. we went to the beach so my mom could collect sand and shells as usual. the weather was amazing it was so beautiful. i hated myself for not packing a swimsuit or even flip flops! after the beach we went to the rehabilitation center for sea turtles. it was so cool, but really sad too. they had a turtle who was hurt so badly by a boat that they had to amputate her front leg (flipper i guess?) and she is still using a feeding tube. me and brett did our part to help out, as you can see, by driving around on the beach saving the sea turtle nests.

please note how much tanner i am than brett in this picture.

after another trip to the beach we left for the looong drive home. my parents prefer the scenic route so we drove the back roads home. the good thing about going that way though is that you pass through lake wailes, florida, which is home of bok tower and spook hill. bok tower is a bell tower and garden, but we didn't realize it would cost us 40 bucks until we rolled up to the toll booth so we turned on around. my parents took us there when we were kids though so brett was the only one missing out. brett wasn't as impressed with spook hill as i was the first time (i guess i was five though) spook hill is basically an optical illusion where you feel like you're rolling uphill.

creepy.

  here's what the sign says:

ages ago an indian town on lake wailes lake was plagued with raids by a huge gator. the town's great warrior chief and the gator were killed in a final battle that created the huge swampy depression nearby. the chief was buried on its north side. later pioneer haulers coming from the old army trail atop the ridge above found their horses laboring here... at the foot of the ridge... and called it spook hill. is it the gator seeking revenge, or the chief protecting his land?
stop car on white line, place in neutral and let it roll back.
all in all it was a great trip and it makes me wish i lived down there,
or could at least visit more often.
