rotations update

a long overdue rotations/school update >>

we are officially in brett's last semester! i can't believe it! but let's back it up real quick -- i haven't done an update since brett's first rotation...
after his first rotation, brett went on to do medication therapy management at tmh. he reviewed patients' medications and interviewed them for interactions and side effects. he worked with patients with alzheimer's, dementia, and parkinson's. next he had his first month of research (where students theoretically help professors with their research and develop their own research project). then he spent the next three months at the neighborhood health services clinic in french town working with patients who have problems with diabetes, cholesterol, and hypertension. in december he got another month of research (aka the holidays) and that brings us up to this semester.
brett's back at tmh again for the next two months on his internal medicine rotation. this was the rotation he's been worried about all along since his preceptor professor is pretty hard core. (she even likes her students to do her boot camp fitness class with her!) for this rotation he goes on rounds with the medical residents, the attending physician, and sometimes the family practice pharmacist. he says it's more interesting because he's seeing acute care patients in the hospital but that it's also depressing. (i don't know how medical professionals can handle giving families bad news/watching patients not make it.)
after this rotation his last rotation is shadowing different jobs at the hospital. in april he finishes his research, studies for the boards, and ties up loose ends before graduation. eek!

this was the last christmas we could really justify giving away fam gear as christmas presents, so we had to make it count. as you could see in the video, emme didn't really appreciate hers.

p.s. this was the most input i've ever gotten on a post from brett... like pulling teeth...
p.p.s. happy birthday to evan today and emily tomorrow! half of us kids are in our thirties now! how did that happen?!

He gave us a brief explanation yesterday during out home teaching visit but tis was more detailed! It all sounds pretty interesting. I can't imagine what it would be like working with Alzheimer's. What an experience. Almost finished! Yay!!
