happy birthday to brett! fiesta
style! brett's not really a party lover so this was more for me and my
love of party planning i suppose.
i sent out trifold invites.
to
be true to the invitation i had to make a donkey pinata. it's one
balloon. the legs are rolled newspaper and the head is scrunched
newspaper. after i popped the balloon i cut a slit so his back would be
flat and papier mached it some more.
i
made a second pinata so more people could have a whack at it. note to
self: apparently adults aren't really into pinatas. you mean not
everyone is willing to make a fool of themselves for candy? the kids all
wanted to take a swing though. i was a little tired of pinata making
(and it was the morning of the party) so i didn't try very hard to make
this one very color coordinated. i used scrapbook paper for the cones so
they would be a good size.
decked
out in a mexican wrestling mask and bandana to attack the pinata. the
stick is an old broom handle spray painted. another note to self: use
strong rope.
i originally wanted to use tins instead of plates (cafe rio style), but budget-wise this was more doable.
dulce de leche cupcakes. candles from party city.
tissue
paper flowers (made just like the tissue pom poms) in mexican soda
bottles from publix. for the foods that i couldn't stick a food label
in, i cut a lemon in half to stick them in. i also cut out the lemon
pulp so it would be less mess on the table and we could squeeze lemon
juice on our tacos.
more
tissue paper flowers and tissue paper banners. i saved the clippings
from the banners and put them inside the pinatas as confetti.
here's the birthday boy in his mexican wrestling mask shirt.
drinks and chips were outside. i used our mexican blanket as a table cloth.
my favorite part about the whole party. the carnival lights.
it was a great night!
post to come with the recipes i used!
