tarantism is the urge to dance
a picaroon is a pirate
and
schmaltz is sentimentality
.
where did i learn all of these amazingly odd words you ask? well today as part of a facebook event i was recruited to spend 10 minutes on the website freerice.com which asks you vocab questions, you can identify famous paintings, test your times tables (i said no thanks to that one), name the capitals of countries and other fun things. each time you get a question right, the website and their sponsors donate 20 grains of rice to the UN. i donated over 11,200 grains of rice today... needless to say it was a little addicting. if you've got time on the computer to waste though, why not do it here? you get to learn and help fight hunger, 20 grains of rice at a time.
here's an example question from the map section
this country is: laos vietnam cambodia thailand
it made me realize how much i don't really know. so many countries or their capitals would sound familiar because i've heard them on the news, but i guess i only half listen cause then doing the name to capital or name the country i would have no clue. crazy.
use it or lose it right? here's my new vocabulary in a sentence.
hit with a fit of tarantism, the picaroon did the macarena with schmaltz for the years when he used to cut a rug.
and the answer is vietnam
